Terminal Services Log 3.5 is out with major new features

It has been almost a year since we first launched the completely redesigned, almost built from scratch, version 3.0. There have been numerous enhancements and new features since the launch, but today we are happy to present the biggest upgrade among 3.X versions – Terminal Services Log 3.5.

Split reports on published applications and server desktops

All users connecting to Remote Desktop Services can be divided into two main groups – ones that use applications directly on the server (published apps in XenApp or RemoteApps in Remote Desktop Services) and others who have their full server desktops.

When one analyzed users and application activity with the previous version of Terminal Services Log, one could see the overall stats filter by certain criteria, but was not able to split the ones that use published apps or server desktops.

Not only that the newest Terminal Services Log  can split and filter the results, but it can also automatically detect all published applications and server desktops. That makes the new feature easy to use allowing you to filter only the sessions that use published apps.

Split report per Server desktop and Published apps only

Private and Global report views

Our customers wanted to create a predefined set of filters that would define servers as a logical farm, users as a logical organization et cetera. Such views could be save but every time you had to choose particular servers or users  yourself.

Any combination of users and servers can now be saved and deployed as Private or Global view. Global view is available for all reports while private view is available only for the selected reports.

New Session count report and Private/Global views allow you to create personalized views

User management like Remote Desktop Manager and Citrix AppCenter

Your are familiar with the Remote Desktop Manager or Citrix AppCenter. They enable you to manage users and applications, and we decided to implement some of their functionalities and enhance them in Terminal Services Log, making TSL more than a reporting software only.

Session management implemented in Terminal Service Log 3.5. lets you assist end users, help them use remote desktop and terminate applications on a single and group level. It provides much more flexibility than RD Manager or Citrix AppCenter by enabling you to filter only a few users, applications or servers and perform session log off on the server/group level or, for example, kill all Internet Explorers in your farm.

Session management allows you to manage al users and application across almonitored servers

Announcing Terminal Services Log 3.0 – Public Beta

We are announcing the availability of public beta version for Terminal Services Log 3.0. To get your free copy of Terminal Services Log please contact us over email or Twitter.

What’s new?

We are very excited about this major release of Terminal Services Log 3.0., as we invested a lot into a number of features, overall user experience, new reports and functionalities.

Our development team completely revamped the user interface, making it easier to use with many new and useful features. Here are some of the new features we are introducing:

  • Performance monitoring is one of the key new features introduced in this version. It allows you to easily track resource usage in your server farm, usage per server, user and application!
  • RDP/ICA Bandwidth monitoring allows you to easily track bandwidth consumed by each client connected to  the server. Combined with additional reports for monitoring client version build (client RDP/ICA version, you will be able to pinpoint users that are still using old RDP client build and upgrade them easily). We are now tracking color depth and resolution for each connected client. These reports will help IT PROs while troubleshooting issues with slow Remote Desktop sessions and poor experience .
  • Real time Email alerts are used when you want to be alerted immediately when someone logs on to your farm, executes an application or unauthorized breach in your environment. Now, TSL will let you know immediately after events occurs.
  • Custom reports will allow you to create reports that matter only to you or your manager. In the previous version it wasn’t possible to create a custom report with custom fields, now TSL allows you to create custom reports.
  • … and much much more… stay tuned!

Installation Instructions

The package itself weights a bit less than 20MB and it is going to take you around 5 minutes to install. You need to connect TSL to the SQL server(at least 2005 is supported) and Active Directory for the agent-less deployment to function correctly.

Upgrading from Terminal Services Log 2.x

For existing TSL 2.x users we recommend you to contact us before proceeding with the installation as we want to help you with the upgrade process.

Terminal Services Log 2.2 – Released

Yet again, we are pleased to announce a new version of Terminal Services Log, our flagship product for Terminal Server / Citrix Monitoring and Reporting.

New version includes some long awaited features:
- Connectivity monitoring (IP Addresses and Hostnames)
- License compliance monitoring
- Improved user experience

Connectivity monitoring
Terminal Services Log now comes with a new connectivity monitoring report (available in Professional edition), which gives you quick and powerful insight into hostnames, IP addresses and network ranges.
The report gives you the ability to detect the exact source location for each user connected to your server. Combined with a server filter you can pinpoint an exact source location and destination (server) to which the user is connected.

License compliance monitoring
A  new set of license reports (available in Professional edition) provides you with valuable information about the number of licenses consumed on a server or across a server farm.
You can use license reports to: verify if you satisfy license compliance requirements, or to check if you need to purchase additional license for published applications.

Improved user experience
We heard your comments and completely rewrote parts of our interface.
The new interface is much easier to use, it gives more space for report panes. Time filters have been changed and improved to allow you to select various custom time periods.
